Care for heart rhythm disorders

Dr Sana Amraoui — Cardiologist, interventional electrophysiologist, Paris

Treating an arrhythmia means restoring a heartbeat that is too fast, too slow and/or irregular. The interventional electrophysiologist observes these rhythm disorders, identifies them and puts a therapeutic plan in place.

Cardiac electrophysiology

Rhythm disorders are a major public health concern and affect a large share of the population. They may be symptomatic — causing breathlessness or fainting, for example — or entirely asymptomatic, while still carrying real risk if left untreated.

Atrial fibrillation, for instance, can go unnoticed by the patient yet raise the risk of ischaemic stroke.
